In-house employment counsel believed a certain workgroup was generating much more than its share of claims, driving up costs.
We compiled data on five years of matters, billings, and settlements. Comparing that data with a breakdown of the client’s workforce, we showed that one workgroup, despite making up only 3% of the client’s workforce, had generated more than a quarter of its legal fees and settlements – more than eight times the expected amount.
Using the data we provided, the in-house lawyer was able to make the case for additional training for the workgroup in question, and with continued monitoring, watch the number of claims go down. We also designed a more efficient and cost-effective way for the client to handle these claims and ensure compliance.
